Aslan
is a local Christian organization which reaches out to at-risk youth in Red Bank, Long Branch, and Asbury Park. It also has a ministry effort in Haiti. Their work ranges from Bible study, to academic tutoring, to summer programs like bike rides, hikes, and summer trips. Other programs range from food and clothing drives to family outreach programs. Tower Hill Church has been the largest supporter of Aslan since its founding by Craig Bogart 35 years ago. Using Vision funding we have recently contributed to purchase of a used van as well as a set of new computers for their day to day work. It is with great hope that we will continue this local support for years to come. Aslan's offices are located in Room 221 on the second floor of THC. Love, INC (Love In the Name of Christ) is a Christian-based clearinghouse for many needs in our community. Their current missions include Wheels Appeal - providing free cars, Furnished with Love - free furniture provided to needy families in addition to selling for revenue, Cuts for Christ - free haircuts, and other ministries including computer classes, money management classes, used bike outreach, help for paying rent and utility bills, Project Connect - Christmas gifts for needy families, and others as well. Love INC is a major community clearinghouse for Monmouth County churches so that they screen applicants for a variety of services. Sixteen Monmouth County pastors of all denominations and all areas of the county serve on the Advisory Committee. Tower Hill Church has been a major sponsor of Love INC since its inception in 1994. Lunch Break is a soup kitchen and outreach program, located in Red Bank, that has been in existence for about 30 years. Its current Executive Director is Gwen Love. Lunch Breaks provides free lunches to local residents in need as well as clothing and blankets. Tower Hill is looking to expand our relationship with Lunch Break. Using our Vision funding Tower Hill has recently enabled Lunch Break to make extensive improvements to their walk in refrigerator and freezers. We have also just taken over responsibility for serving breakfast on the third Saturday of each month. Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that provides housing at a modest price for qualifying families. Tower Hill Church has a close working relationship with the Chapter of Habitat for Humanity Northeast Monmouth County. In 2009 Tower Hill Church donated a kitchen, powder room and master bath for a home built in Keansburg, NJ. In 2010 Tower Hill Church is donating a kitchen and powder room to a Habitat for Humanity home in Long Branch, NJ. The current construction supervisor is Frank Bridge.
HABcore is a non-profit corporation in Monmouth and Ocean Counties that provides housing and support services in a family-like setting to individuals who are disabled, homeless, or unable to manage on their own. HABcore provides supportive services to over 100 residents in 4 - 5 locations on a daily basis. Residents are given assistance in helping them rebuild their lives. Steve Heisman is the Executive Director and Marilyn Pearlman serves as President.
Vision for the Hill monies enabled HABcore to maintain boarding homes and independent living apartments in Red Bank and Asbury Park. Many volunteer opportunities are available. For more information contact Kim Smith at 732-530-7718.
Manna Closet is Tower Hill's small food pantry services people in need at our church and also helps provide food for the pantry at Saint Anthony's Church in Red Bank. Food is collected throughout the year by people dropping off bags of food in the small cupboard located near the office entrance or in the Manna bin located in the Narthax. . Food drives are also performed by the Sunday School Classes, youth groups, Tower Hill Flames, and other groups throughout the year. Project Connect is a program sponsored by Love INC to allow people to provide and deliver Christmas gifts for local families and seniors in need. Tables are set up in Webster Hall before Christmas with names of people or families who have requested help from this program. Call Love INC at 732-542-7012 ext.212.
Deacon's Needy Fund provides support for local needy families and scholarships for Tower Hill high school students.
Winter Coat Drive is a Tower Hill program to collect coats for local needy individuals. Drop coats off on Webster Hall stage at a designated time in October and November.
Thanksgiving Food Bags are collected a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. Shopping lists and bags are handed out for people to fill up with Thanksgiving Day Fixings to help complete a Thanksgiving day Meal.
Turkey/Hams for the Needy are distributed at Thanksgiving and Easter. Donations of money are collected before these holidays to buys turkeys and hams for needy families.
Vision for the Hill monies will provide additional assistance to future homes built by Habitat for Humanity. This partnership provides many volunteer opportunities for Tower Hill Church. For more information contact Jane Austin at 732-291-2261.
