Heavenly Father, you have given your servants of every time and every place a vision - a vision for ministry, a vision that gives them direction and sustains them on the road of ministry. Today, we thank you and pray for the vision you have entrusted to us, our Vision for the Hill. We pray for this vision for ministry, a vision that will give us direction and sustain us on our road of ministry. O God, through your Holy Spirit, continue to show us where you want us to go and how we are to follow. We pray in the name of Jesus, who gave sight to those who longed to see. Amen. What is our Vision for the Hill?
It's our 3-year program to enhance our campus for ministry by fixing some pressing problems in our 50-year-old building, by making improvements that will help us minister more effectively, and by reaching out in new mission initiatives to serve people. This $2.6 million program, which runs through June 2011, is providing new ways to work together, to grow in Christ, and to strengthen us as a church family. Over $1 million has already been given and used for God's work. Be a part if it!!
What has already been accomplished?
On the mission side, Vision for the Hill is enabling us to reach out in Monmouth County and in Haiti, as we grow in our own faith and in our commitment to help people in the world. We are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to supply the kitchens for new houses in Monmouth County. We have already given a kitchen for a house under construction in Keansburg; we anticipate supplying the kitchens on an ongoing basis for additional new houses. Members of our church family are also giving their Time and Talents to serve Aslan Youth Ministries in Monmouth County and in Haiti; we are now helping Alsan locally with their activities and our college students/young adults are involved in Haiti.
On the construction side, much has been completed.
- An elevator has been installed to link all three floors of our building
- The St. Andrews Room on the lower level has been completely rebuilt into a fine multipurpose room that is already supporting a wide range of ministry uses.
- A new, code-compliant fire alarm system is now installed and working
- The upper back parking lot was rebuilt to provide a substantial improvement in safety, drainage, and appearance.
- The original boilers and heating control system were replaced to provide improved heating and energy-efficiency.
- The steeple was straightened
What construction is planned for 2009?
The ceiling in Webster Hall is now being redone to include air-conditioning, improved lighting, and far better insulation over this large ceiling. This air-conditioning will allow for expanded use of Webster Hall in the summer months. The Parlor is also being air-conditioned to support expanded use in the summer months. In the kitchen, a code-compliant fire-suppression system will be installed. Work will start early this summer on the expansion of the Narthex to include new restrooms that are substantially larger and handicapped-compliant, an expanded area for greeting and fellowship, and good handicapped access from the front parking lot. Also this summer, the lower back parking lot will be improved, including addressing the deteriorated retaining wall.
What about 2010-2011?
The remaining major work on the Webster Hall area for early 2010 will include new restrooms by the kitchen that are larger and handicapped-compliant, modifications to the stage area, and attractive new flooring. The main first-floor hallway in the church building is to be substantially improved to facilitate the movement of our growing church family through our church building. Outside, chronic drainage problems on the front slope will be corrected.
Why should I help?
Giving to the Vision for the Hill Fund will help ensure a bright and strong future for our church. The campus improvements will allow for new and expanded programs and ministries. The mission initiatives will provide lasting changes in Monmouth County and abroad. Be a part of making it happen!!
